About-What moving frames is

Moving frames festival is a collective attempt from a group of people which begun in 2009 in Mytilene-Lesvos Island in Greece. Main concern of the festival is to project the late creations in digital art field in the spatial frame of the city itself. The collectiveness of the action constitutes a basic requirement for accomplishing moving frames’ objective; the utilization of space in which we all live in every day, beyond every form of commercial use. The re-appropriation of space in which we live in and move, the space which belongs to us, the re-appropriation of public space. We have presented and curated almost 200 international artists the last two years during the festival and an important number of citizens have attended the events. We are asked every year for collaboration with other festivals in Greece and worldwide.

          People, residents of Mytilene or not, are working together in the organisation and realisation of the festival. Some lend material- technical equipment (projectors, computers, sound boxes, cables, monitors, seats etc), granting either their own equipment or the one from their workplace. Others contribute with their work, creativity and knowledge not only at the preparation stage but also at the set up stage. Others contribute by coordinating the work and in the communicative part and others by financially supporting this effort. But first and foremost many more contributed with their presence and ideas (we are constantly open to new ideas). So that we can meet, go about, discuss, look at works of various creators, respectfully attend the space which belongs to us, city spots which we seldom have the opportunity or we rarely find an excuse to do so. No financial support was needed by any sponsor and no economic profit was pursued. Money is not the only requirement for creation. Stamina and concern of the active citizen, is the greatest motivation. Cooperation, action, discussion through works of digital art and finally the considerations which necessarily come from how such an action can be set up and presented in an outdoor place, is the only profit and the only objective, with ulterior motive the integration of more and more people in this effort.
